Let me ask you something…
When do you think was the last time you had a truly amazing meal?
Did you leave the table feeling fulfilled, perhaps even more spiritually connected with the world?
…I know, it’s hard for me to answer that one too…
It is possible that the reason why it’s hard for us to answer this question is because of our society today. Nowadays, we are so much ‘on the go’, that we don’t stop and make time to come together, spiritually and mentally, through the food we eat. Thus, we do not experience great satisfaction over a meal. Think about it, one of the only times we have a special meal is when we come together with others for an event like Christmas or a birthday, that’s hardly ever!
The suggestion prosed in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, that coming together to eat is to wait for each other in the sense that “it will not be for your condemnation.” Is, in fact, a way that we can newly regain finding fulfillment in the food we eat and a sense of belonging in the community through the food that we eat.
So, instead of worrying about living life at a constant go, go, go status, let’s embrace and acknowledge the happiness food can bring to us. And although this world can make it hard, if we continue to pass by life without stopping and coming together through food, then maybe we will eventually lose our ability to properly connect with one another as a whole. Imagine that!
