Madeleine is in Stage II of her Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and Psychology at the University of Auckland. Madeleine is also a member of the Arts Scholars program focused on enriching and extending high performing Arts students. While she is an undergraduate, Madeleine has her sights set on the postgraduate Clinical Psychology program. Moreover, despite the slim prospects of entry (due to places available and the rigorous selection process), Madeleine remains undeterred. Madeleine has a consistent work ethic, driven by her desire to help young people discover mental well-being. Through equipping clients with the necessary tools to manage distress, Madeleine hopes to be of aid in a time of mental health crisis. To reach this long-term goal, she volunteers weekly at the Mount Albert Community Club. MACC provides organised activities for adults experiencing mental health issues in the ADHB area. Madeleine’s other interests consist of creative mediums, including the composition of poetry and original songs. Madeleine is also involved in ‘The Way of the Raukura: A Parihaka Musical,’ which tells the story of land conflict in Aotearoa in the late 19th century. At heart, Madeleine is a storyteller, be that through creatively painting her own experiences or helping to tell that of others. Madeleine is interested in the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, the world we live in, and how these narratives can limit or release our full potential. Madeleine values dedication, perseverance and curiosity and believes that these are the gateways to positive change in communities.
